Icon Tutorial

You will learn how to make an icon the way I do it, just follow the steps below.

1. Open up the image you'll be using. I am using this one from SHGarden.

2. The first thing you need to do is crop your image by using this tool . Select the part you want to crop and double click.

3. To resize the image: alt + ctrl + i or go to Image > Image Size and match your settings like mine:

3. You will have something like this:

3. Sometimes the image turns out too smooth, to fix that, just duplicate the base image and go to Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen and lower the opacity of that layer:

4. You can stop here and go to my Vintage Icon Tutorial or finish this tutorial.

5. Create a new layer: shift + ctrl + n or go to Layer > New > Layer... and press "Ok".

6. Fill that layer with this color #613009 and set it to screen 100%

7. Create a new layer and fill it with this color #FF455F and set it to color dodge 17%

8. Duplicate the base image and set it to overlay 36%

9. Here are the layers I ended up with:

10. I added some brushes to my icon and this is my result:

11. If you'd like to modify your icon later or keep it as a base, just save it as a .psd file.
